Step Three: How To Customize & Use Your Ads / Flyers After you've purchased your Print Advertising Kit in The Reconnection Store, you'll need to customize (i.e. add your name and phone number to) the three ads contained in your Kit. This is not done through our customization and printing system at VistaPrint, because you don't print ads* like you do with business cards and brochures; you instead give a copy of the computer file, or a printed copy of the ad, to your newspaper or magazine. * The color and black & white 5 x 5 ads can also be used as flyers. Three Steps To Completing Your Ads Step One: Download After purchasing your Print Advertising Kit, you'll be emailed a web site address and given a password and username to access and download your Kit.
The Kit files you download are compressed or zipped/stuffed. Once you download the files to your computer, you will need to decompress or unzip them using StuffIt Expander*, available for free at http://www.stuffit.com/downloads.html * Some people will find that upon download, your computer automatically unzips the files for you. If not, use Stuffit Expander or WinZip to unzip them. Step Two: Customize Do It Yourself: Your Kit will contain your three ads, formatted as JPEG files, completed ad file examples (aka: "Look" Files) so you know what the completed ad should look like, and a detailed "How To Customize" instruction file. The JPEG versions of the ads are accepted by most graphic programs. Give this or the Kinkos option below a try - it's really not that hard and most likely, you'll be glad you did!
Kinkos: If you don't have a graphics program that will accept JPEG files, simply go to your nearest Kinkos. They have the programs, printers and experienced staff to assist you in this quick customization process. To make it easy, we recommend that you download, customize and print all in one step while there. It's also a great place to learn!
Step Three: Give To The Newspaper, Magazine or Print As Flyers Newspapers / Magazines: Once your ads are customized, you will need to either print out a copy of the ad to give to your newspaper / magazine, or email them your file. Please check with your newspaper or magazine to see what electronic file types they accept, how'd they prefer to receive the ad from you, and for their advertising specifications and policies. Making Flyers: You may choose to use your 5 x 5 ads as flyers. Simply print and trim to size either from your home computer printer or have them printed / copied at Kinkos or another print shop. Flyers can be posted on community bulletin boards or used as handouts. |
